16th of September Avenue
Also known as Paseo Triunfo de la Republica, Avenida Tecnologico,
and Carretera Panamericana
Speaking of the 16th of September: this is a very important street, in all
its different names, that you must learn if you want to get around in Juarez.
From Lopez Mateos westward, including the downtown
area, it is called 16th of September. East of Lopez Mateos it is
called Paseo Triunfo (P.T.) de la Republica; around Futurama
Tecnologico it is called Avenida Tecnologico, and
farther east, around the airport, it is the Carretera Panamericana
(Panamerican Highway). Another thing: while it runs east-west as
16th of September, it takes a 90-degree turn south at the
Curva de
San Lorenzo
(the big curve near the San Lorenzo Cathedral).
Going east from downtown: 16th of September runs one-way west in the downtown
area, so to go east, to get to Rio Grande Mall, where Futurama is located,
you should either go south on Lerdo, then take a left on Mejia, which turns
into Hermanos Escobar, and runs just past Lopez Mateos to the
area of the American Embassy; or, take Francisco Villa, which runs parallel to
Juarez Avenue (Avenida Juarez), one block to the east, then turn left at
Vicente Guerrero, which is the first light south of 16th of September.
Guerrero takes you to the south side of Rio Grande Mall, just past
Lopez Mateos. There are a number of good bars and discos around Rio Grande
Mall.
