Common Fallacies about Ciudad Juarez

1) Juarez is a small border town that is economically dependent on El Paso.
Although most El Pasoans don't realize it, Juarez has about twice the population of El Paso. While the maquiladoras are very important to the Juarez economy, El Paso relies much more on Juarez shoppers than Juarez does on American tourists.

2) There are lots of beggars in Juarez
Only on the bridges, and on Juarez Avenue. El Paso has more beggars than Juarez, and they are scattered all over the place.

3) Your car will automatically get stolen if you park it in Juarez.
Just as in El Paso, certain models, especially late-model vans and trucks, are frequently stolen. Similarly, most cars more than 5 years old are almost never stolen in either city.
